About our Honoree
Dr. Ronald Roth attended the Pennsylvania State University in 1977 where he became an EMT. He then work on the University Ambulance during his time at Penn State. Dr. Roth was accepted to medical school at the University of Pittsburgh and continued his training at the University of Pittsburgh Residency in Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Roth served as the program director for the EMS fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh from 2006-2019 and now serves as the associate program director.
Dr. Roth is board certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and was one of the first physicians board certified in the subspecialty of Emergency Medical Services. Dr. Roth serves as the Senior Medical Consultant for the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety which includes police, fire first responders and EMS.
He also serves as a Medical Command Physician at the UPMC Medical Command Center. The Center provides medical direction to over 40 EMS agencies, the largest academic medical helicopter service (STAT MedEvac) and provides ground based medical direction for 20 US and international airlines.
Dr. Roth also serves as Medical Director for the Pittsburgh Marathon and Allegheny County Emergency Operations Center. He is a team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers Football Club.
Dr. Roth led EMS for the City of Pittsburgh for two decades, including first responder deployment, and is a mentor to many plus an authoritative voice to improve care and professional relations among prehospital providers of all types in the region, Commonwealth and nation.
