The Pittsburgh Emergency Medicine Foundation has selected Dr. Daniel Swayze this year to receive the PEMF Excellence Award. Dr. Swayze has a long history in EMS. He graduated from Hahnemann University (now Drexel University) with a Master of Emergency Medical Services. He holds a Doctor of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.
Dr. Swayze has held various academic positions including Associate Program Director of the Allegheny University of the Health Services, Volunteer Adjunct Instructor, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Pittsburgh and Adjunct Instructor, University of Pittsburgh, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
Dr. Swayze is a retired Paramedic and has been a Continuing Education Coordinator, Paramedic Training Coordinator, Director of UPMC Prehospital Care, Executive Director of EMED Health, Director of Employer Health Programs at UPMC, Vice President of Consumer Health and Wellness, Chief Operating Officer of the Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania, Inc., AVP Clinical Affairs Community Support Services and Director of Operations for UPMC Innovative Homecare Solutions. Dr. Swayze is currently the Vice President of Community Services for UPMC Health Plan.
Dr. Swayze has many publications and has received many honors. He has also served on numerous boards including UPMC St. Margaret and UPMC Passavant Hospital, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Jewish Healthcare Foundation Board and Health Care Futures Board, and Cranberry Township EMS.
